CÁDIZ

Restaurante El Faro

Since its opening in 1964, this has been Old Town's best and most respected restaurant, featuring a busy tapas bar near the mudéjar entrance. Since we first discovered it some time back, standards have improved so much that El Faro is justified in calling itself the best restaurant in the province, thanks to the devotion, skill, and talent of its owner, Gonzalo Córdoba. It is decorated with beautiful tilework and marble, making for a genuinely fine, fabulous, and formal restaurant. It enjoys links to the political and media-related communities of Cádiz. A collection of photos on the walls is a virtual who's who of Spanish entertainment, politics, and bullfighting. Tables are elaborately decorated and set with crisp napery, lots of cutlery, crystal, and flowers. The waitstaff is the best in Cádiz. Tempting specialties include fresh fish and shellfish based on the catch of the day. We prefer ours baked in a salt crust that seals in the aroma and juices. Begin perhaps with the seafood soup and follow with, say, the roulades of sole with fresh spinach, hake with green sauce, or an especially delectable monkfish with strips of Serrano ham. For dessert, try the homemade ice cream drenched with a sweet red Andalusian wine called Pedro Ximénez.

Restaurante Almudaina

In the atmospheric historical setting in the Jewish Quarter of Cordoba, near the Mosque and in front of the Castle of the Christian Monarchs, the Almudaina Restaurant fills the air with the smells and flavours of the highest quality cuisine. The restaurant building is a charming minor palace which was built in the 16th century by Leopold of Austria, bishop of Cordoba and uncle of Emperor Charles V, and here the owner, Eldemiro Jiménez Rojo, offers a selection of newly-invented dishes side by side with the traditional favourites of Cordoban cuisine. The delightful interior courtyard, covered with traditional glass and lead panelling which lets in plenty of daylight, or any of the seven dining-rooms are ideal for trying out our excellent cuisine which combines locally purchased products with decidedly Moorish influences. Vegetables, meat, pork products, sea food and fish make up our simple but imaginative dishes which are famous for the quality of the food and the interesting ways they are made.

Restaurante El Churrasco

Housed in the heart of the Jewish quarter, the dining rooms of this restaurant lie in several adjoining houses. They are decorated with old motifs as well as with major paintings by local painters. It has two courtyards, one which is typical of Cordoba that lies on the ground floor, and the other which is housed in the upper part with a wonderful lemon tree that bears fruit all year round. It has a main dining hall as well as 10 private dining rooms.

Located in the city center, only 10 minutes’ walk from the Mosque-Cathedral. Restaurant menu features a wide variety of special traditional Cordoban dishes and is based principally on the simplicity and quality of its ingredients, with a touch of innovation. The delicious dishes have the added attraction of that natural, authentic touch. The menu changes throughout the year, thus incorporating seasonal produce. The restaurant has private dining rooms. Other services: Areas for smokers and non-smokers, specially adapted facilities for the disabled, parking space for our customers’ use, cloakroom service.

Restaurante Pedro Romero

Avenida Virgen de la Paz 18, E-29400 Ronda

Located in Ronda. The classic Rondeño restaurant, opposite the Plaza de Toros, or bull ring, and where the matadores and their admirers, including luminaries such as Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway, went to celebrate or commiserate with the likes of local legend Antonio Ordoñez. The walls are covered with memorabilia from the corrida, bullfight, and even though the menu has gone up-market recently, it's still the place to find classic Rondeño and Andaluz dishes.

Taberna Alabardero

Carretera de San Pedro a Ronda Km 167, E-Benahavís - Marbella

Located in Benahavis. You'll enjoy this place if you're looking for a nice lunch. Note that the lunch menu, in the downstairs portion only, is by far the best deal. This is no bar food or tapas, although I don't have anything against the two. El Alabardero is the school of hosteleria so you get some young waiters who are practicing their skills but at a high level. The menu changes most every day and you might consider the food as being from the new school of Spanish cooking - they're not afraid to use some interesting or exotic ingredients in preparing the dishes. The presentation of the food is also something to be seen. It's upscale at a very reasonable price. Note on some holidays and other events the menu price may be higher. For a truly special meal, which comes at a high price, try the upstairs dining room where you can enjoy excellent wines (by the bottle only) along with some of the best cuisine in Andaluci.

Parador de Granada

Spend a night at the site of the Alhambra, among gardens and fountains which recall a past where the Arabian merged with the Christian. Meson Don Raimundo

Located in a former convent, the atmosphere has a richly historic feel. It should be mentioned the building served as the first post office in Seville, a school and a bakery. In the late 1960's it was renovated for it's purpose today. Following the historic tradition of the house, the restaurant offers dishes in typical Andalusian and Mozarabe style. Mozarabe would be classified as those dishes with their roots from the Arab occupation, which over time blended with regional ingredients and specialties. This is especially noticeable in the dessert menu. One of the specialties, and excellent reasons to dine in Don Raimundo, is the offering of seasonal small and big game, with a menu including venison (venao) and wild boar (jabalí), as well as rabbit and pheasant. Fresh seafood is also well prepared.

Restaurante el Cabildo

Situated right in the heart of the historic city of Seville, nestling inside the old town in harmony with the history and culture of this unique setting. The Plaza de El Cabildo, which occupies a privileged spot next to the cathedral and the Giralda, gives its name to the Restaurante El Cabildo. Remains of the 13th century Almohad wall, which defended the city from invaders, are found inside the restaurant itself.

Restaurante Casa Robles

Located in the city's historic center, 50 paces from the Cathedral, this elegant eatery has an extensive menu, including 100 dishes, 40 desserts, and even a choice of 11 private dining rooms. The street, once known as Mercaderes, boasted in old times a broad array of merchants and workshops. Croquettes with fresh mint are among the recommended specialties. Also, the mojama (dried tuna) with oregano and tomato is emblematic, and the seabass with apricot vinegar demonstrates the creative personality of the place.


Restaurante Robles Aljarafe

Restaurante Robles Placentines 

C/ Álvarez Quintero 58, E-41004 Sevilla

While there are three locations within 1 minute of each other, I always prefer Robles Placentines to Casa Robles and Robles Tapas. Perhaps it is the bodega type atmosphere, or the fact that calle Placentines is just a little, and a very little, off the beaten path. In Robles Placentines you can enjoy tapas, but the best food is when you sit down for a full meal. A traditional Andalusian menu with a few twists, both pescado and carne are well recommended. The jamón serrano is featured on the menu with a description: "the best in the world", and it just might be: almost sweet, practically dissolving in your mouth. The dessert menu features a number of homemade creations as well as coffees and liqueurs. We've always experienced good service.


Restaurante La Raza
