Adrere Amellal (Ecolodge) *****

Each one of our hand-built 40 rooms is unique, combining distinction and authenticity. Earth buildings blend naturally into the landscape. All the furniture and crafts pay tribute to nature and to talented local artisanship.
With no electricity, the rooms are softly lit with a dozen beeswax candles and the starry desert sky.
A Place Out Of Time
" This is a place with a very special, luxurious sense of the primitive, surrounded by the kind of magic that only ancient tribes, majestic mountains and ruthless desert climates can conjure.”
W. Geordie Greig,
“Nomad’s Land, Tatler Magazine, April 2007
"At night it is so quiet that you begin to hear the stars.”
Benedict Allen,
“Desert Retreats”, Harper’s Abroad, June 2002
“Adrère Amellal desert eco lodge is a paradox in process, mingling the asceticism of a Cistercian monastery, the luxuries of a Turkish seraglio, and the whimsy of a Cape Cod sandcastle.”
Conde Nast Traveler November 2000
Desert Rooms
“The only sight in the silent darkness of Egypt’s Western Desert is that of a hundred hurricane lamps, lined up in the sand like a constellation of stars leading to our room.”
W. Geordie Greig,
“Nomad’s Land, Tatler Magazine, April 2007
Cuisine
“Quand on a bonne table on a toujours raison.” - Collin d’Harleville
“Most of the mainly organic food is grown in the grounds or sourced locally, so vegetables and fruit are bursting with flavor. Lunch is served by the pool. Dinner is somewhere different every day – one night we dined at the lone table in a grotto studded with salt crystals and candles.”-
Aoife Oriordain, “Hotel of the Week”,
the Independent, December 2006
Taziry (Ecolodge) ****

Taziry resort is a Siwan ecolodge. It is located in West Egypt near the Lybian border, deep in the western desert 16 km west of Siwa city.
The resort is strategically located at the footsteps of the Red Mountain (Adrâr Azugâgh) facing the famous White Mountain (Adrâr Amillâl) and the vast Ghâry Lake trimmed at the horizon by the beautiful forests of Fatnas.
Taziry has been built with local natural materials in accordance with the Siwan ancestral construction method with an extra special touch of style, comfort and service. Doors and windows are ideally placed to capture the slight wind from the desert, eliminating the need for air-conditioning. Oil lamps and candles are used for lighting giving the place a quaint and cosy poetic atmosphere.
The salty soil of the oases is called "karshif " in Arabic. It is used by the locals to produce their own traditional mud brick for house-building. Siwan make use of that mud as mortar and plastering. They use also dried palm tree timber and wooden beams for the ceilings.
Our rooms and suites in our 24 chalets (2 flats per chalets, 2 to 4 pax) are fully furnished and local decorated by local Siwan artists, given the resort a genuine Siwan cachet.
